Osmosis
Reverse
Osmosis is a membrane separation process which is capable
of separating the dissolved salts (ions) present in the
water and allows clean water molecules to pass through the
membrane. In reality, it is the water molecules that are
separated from the dissolved salts and not, as is known
from ion exchange, the ions that are removed from the water.
The
dissolved salts are removed almost 100% and the pores of
the membrane are so small that even micro-organisms like
bacteria and pyrogens cannot penetrate. The treated water
(the permeate) is collected in a reservoir tank and from
here it will be pumped to the user installation. The reject
water (the concentrate) will flow to drain.
